person watch

ok, i did add this to the topic on zonersclub but thought i'd post it here for everyone. Last night some users were discussing the person watch feature, and the concensus amongst some of them was that they found it a bit creepy that users can elect to receive an email every time they log into the site. I guess it's kind of the notion that we can be "watched" by people who we might not necessarily want to know our every move. While I agree the feature might be good for some to have, I think there are perhaps some users who might not be comfortable with it being there, so as a suggestion, how about if, in the account settings page, there was a "allow people to add me to their watch lists and receive emails when i log in" check box which users could uncheck if they don't want this feature to be enabled for them ... just a thought.

Ideally I would say every time a person adds you to a watch list you should automatically receive a private message on the zone allerting you of this and you actually have to go to your account page and enable watch for that person only, if you so choose, if you do not take that action the watch will not e effective.
It's a great feature in some ways but, I have to agree, it can be abused quite easily and you may get unwanted attention.
I do realize implementing this system will take a bit of coding and may considered to be too much work, but I think ideally this should be the case, certain people may want to know when their friends are online and that's the right use of this feature but it's too easy to use it in the stalking sense of the word, even if it's just an online community.
cheers

lol angel! thank you for making me smile! though funny you should say that because as i was reading what sugarbaby was suggesting to improve the feature it did strike me that most idiots on here already can't keep up with the idea. adding in these new features would just lead to further confusion for the poor little befuddled dearies!

personally i say scrap it anyway! for one thing i'm sick of explaining what it is! for another, and lets be honest here, it's plain bloody eerie!

Post 5 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Thursday, 16-Jun-2005 15:59:29

I support Wildebrew's views on this matter: It would be nice if you could select who's watching you and who not.

i only have one person ont he watch list, and it's not a problem for me since they ae my best friend. Personally I don't care if this feature stays or goes.

Yeah SB I don't like this feature myself. I was reading the boards offline and I had to put my two cents in. Before I did I checked to see who was online first. And this one person wasn't online who's premium. I log in and 10 seconds later this person PMs me out of the blue. This feature ought to be for all members simply because if you're premium it gives you the sole right to stalk people who don't want to be watched. And for us freebies not to be able to turn this feature off, well then I may as well leave the community because I don't appricate that kind of feature where people can watch you. Especially one person in particular who likes to flirt with me via PM and he makes me uncomfortable.

I just private quick noted Chris N about my concerns for this feature. He's going to try and update it with the ignore list so that if anyone you have is on ignore that has this feature turned on, then they can't watch you or make contact with you. So I guess say I ignore sugar baby, SB can't watch me, or know that I'm online, or contact me. At least thats what I assumed Chris was trying to get across. Not that I'd block you SB, you're cool.

Yes. Big helpful changes are coming to the ignore system. CL's should be testing them over the next day or so.

yeah, thanks a lot all. Just give us more work to do and more things to test! :(

I agree with the comments. When I first saw this feature added here I thought of 'Big brother is watching' I find it a bit 'gone too far' because I don't want everyone who is a member here know my every move and whether I have logged on here or not. I find it abit of an intrision of privacy. How far can one go to have control over another person's moves? Star

I too concur with only allowing those u want to know to be able to put you on person watch. Criss designed a new ignore system to solve this and other problems, and we're putting it through its testing stages now. We're sure u will like the new system better, so stay tuned.

awww we're glad you're taking the means to do more for those who don't have premium. I still think this isn't a good idea regardless of the future ignore system on there. And how are freebies able to know who added them to the watch list?
